A net that in Cambodia can be found, at its origin, among the debris of a construction site, to delimit a pile of bricks, or a pile of sand. Or in a flooded rice field to catch fish, or in a pond to contain a small duck farm. The starting material is poor but ductile, resistant, light. When properly crafted, layered, and finished with expert tailoring, it creates beautiful products. Originality lies in choosing unusual materials and transforming them into bags and accessories that are innovative and fashionable. A social enterprise founded in 2006 by two Italian women in Phnom Penh, Smateria is a small Cambodian company but led by Italy. The company operates under regular contracts and has equipped itself with a full-service nursery for the workers' children. The product design is Italian, the finishes are the work of the expert hands of Cambodian seamstresses. RAM, an Italian importer of fair trade products, is a Smateria representative in our country.
