In Cambodia, this mesh can be found among construction site debris, enclosing a pile of bricks or a mound of sand. It can also be found in a flooded rice paddy to catch fish, or in a pond to house a small duck farm. The starting material is humble but ductile, durable, and lightweight. When carefully crafted, layered, and finished with expert tailoring, it creates beautiful products. Their originality lies in the choice of unusual materials and their transformation into innovative and fashionable bags and accessories. A social enterprise founded in 2006 by two Italian women in Phnom Penh, Smateria is a small Cambodian company under Italian management. The company operates under regular contracts and has a full-service nursery for the workers' children. The product design is Italian, and the finishing touches are the work of skilled Cambodian seamstresses. RAM, an Italian importer of fair trade products, is a Smateria representative in our country.
